Crunchy, sweet, and a little bit silly, these Halloween popcorn balls are a quick and easy treat that kids love. Made with simple ingredients and decorated with candy eyes, they’re perfect for Halloween parties and family movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 1 standard bag (10 ounces) mini marshmallows
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of flaky sea salt or kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup candy eyes (about 50–60 pieces)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup candy corn, 1/4 cup sprinkles, or a handful of mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn. Spread on a large baking sheet and pick out any unpopped kernels. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Line a large baking sheet or clean counter with parchment paper. Lightly spray with cooking spray or rub with butter.
  3. In a large pot over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons unsalted butter. Add a pinch of salt and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
  4. Pour the entire bag of mini marshmallows into the pot. Stir constantly until smooth and glossy, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the popcorn in a large mixing bowl. Gently fold until every piece is coated.
  6. Sprinkle 1/2 cup candy eyes over the popcorn mixture and fold gently to distribute evenly.
  7. Using greased hands or disposable gloves, scoop up about 1/2 cup of the mixture and press firmly into a ball shape. Place on prepared parchment paper. Repeat with remaining mixture (makes 12-14 popcorn balls).
  8. Let the popcorn balls cool and set at room temperature for at least 15 minutes.
  9. Serve and enjoy. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Notes

Work quickly once marshmallow mixture is combined with popcorn as it sets fast. If mixture hardens, reheat on low for 30 seconds. Grease hands or wear gloves to prevent sticking. Use fresh marshmallows for best melting. Popcorn that is at least a day old works best for even coating.
