witches brew punch - featured image

A spooky, non-alcoholic Halloween punch that combines lime sherbet, pineapple juice, lemon-lime soda, and a secret splash of blue sports drink for a murky green color that looks like swamp water but tastes like a tropical vacation. Perfect for Halloween parties, it comes together in under 15 minutes and is a crowd-pleaser for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 quart lime sherbet (e.g., Breyers or Blue Bell)
  • 4 cups (960 ml) pineapple juice, unsweetened 100% juice, chilled
  • 4 cups (960 ml) lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite, 7UP), chilled
  • 1 cup (240 ml) blue sports drink (e.g., Powerade or Gatorade), chilled
  • 1 cup (240 ml) orange juice, chilled
  • 1 cup gummy worms (for garnish)
  • Ice ring or ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ice ring (optional, but recommended): The night before, arrange a handful of gummy worms in the bottom of a bundt pan or ring mold. Pour in enough pineapple juice to cover the worms by about an inch. Freeze for 2 hours, then add more pineapple juice to fill the mold and freeze overnight.
  2. Chill all ingredients: At least 2 hours before serving, refrigerate the pineapple juice, orange juice, blue sports drink, and lemon-lime soda. Keep the sherbet in the freezer until ready to assemble.
  3. Combine the juices: In a large pitcher or mixing bowl, stir together the chilled pineapple juice, orange juice, and blue sports drink.
  4. Add the lemon-lime soda: Pour the juice mixture into your punch bowl, then slowly add the chilled lemon-lime soda. Stir gently with a whisk to combine without losing too much carbonation.
  5. Scoop in the lime sherbet: Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, add dollops of lime sherbet to the punch. Start with about half the quart, then stir gently to let it melt slightly. Add the remaining sherbet for extra creaminess and color.
  6. Add the ice ring: Carefully unmold the ice ring by running the bottom of the pan under warm water for 10 seconds. Float it in the punch bowl, gummy worm side up.
  7. Garnish with gummy worms: Toss a handful of extra gummy worms around the punch bowl. Some will sink, some will float. For extra drama, drape a few over the edge of the bowl.
  8. Serve immediately: Ladle the punch into cups, making sure each serving gets a gummy worm or two. Best within the first hour.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free lime sorbet. For a less sweet punch, swap lemon-lime soda for club soda. For an adult version, add a splash of vodka or white rum to individual cups. The punch is best served within the first hour. To refresh, add more soda and sherbet.
