A refreshingly vibrant cocktail with a perfect balance of tangy blueberry sweetness and crisp minty freshness, ideal for summer parties and spontaneous gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (75g) fresh blueberries, ripe and firm
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves, bright green and fragrant
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) white rum, good quality
  • 1 ounce (30 ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) simple syrup, homemade or store-bought
  • 4 ounces (120 ml) chilled soda water
  • Ice cubes, plenty
  • Optional: extra blueberries and mint sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash blueberries and mint leaves thoroughly. Set aside a few berries and a sprig of mint for garnish.
  2. Place blueberries and fresh mint leaves in a glass. Gently muddle with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to bruise the mint and release blueberry juice without pulverizing.
  3. Add 1 ounce (30 ml) freshly squeezed lime juice and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) simple syrup. Stir gently to mix flavors.
  4. Fill the glass with ice cubes, then pour 2 ounces (60 ml) white rum over the ice.
  5. Top with about 4 ounces (120 ml) chilled soda water. Stir lightly with a bar spoon to combine without flattening bubbles.
  6. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a few blueberries. Slap the mint sprig between your hands before garnishing to release aroma.

Notes

Do not over-muddle the mint to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lime juice and mint for best flavor. Keep all ingredients cold before mixing. If muddling is tricky, muddle mint with lime and syrup first, then add blueberries and ice. For a lighter drink, reduce rum and add more soda water or lemonade. Frozen blueberries can be used but avoid over-muddling.
