A quick and easy fall dessert featuring thinly sliced apples layered with warm caramel sauce, toasted nuts, cinnamon sugar, and a pinch of sea salt. Perfect for sharing and balancing fresh fruit with indulgent flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Fuji, or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup store-bought caramel sauce (e.g., Werther’s Original) or homemade
  • ½ cup toasted pecans or walnuts, chopped
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (1 tablespoon cinnamon mixed with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar)
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples. Slice each apple into thin wedges about 1/8 inch thick, removing the core but leaving the skin on.
  2. Toss apple slices in a mixing bowl with 1 teaspoon lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. Combine 1 tablespoon cinnamon with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and sprinkle over the apples. Gently toss to coat evenly.
  4. Toast ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes until fragrant and slightly golden. Let cool.
  5. Warm caramel sauce gently in a small saucepan over low heat or microwave for 20-30 seconds until pourable but not hot. Stir well.
  6. Arrange apple slices on a large serving platter in a single overlapping layer like nachos.
  7. Drizzle warm caramel sauce evenly over the apples.
  8. Sprinkle toasted nuts and mini chocolate chips over the top.
  9. Add a light pinch of flaky sea salt over everything to balance sweetness.
  10. Serve immediately with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Warm the caramel just enough to make it pourable but not hot to avoid overpowering the apples. Toss apple slices with lemon juice immediately after slicing to prevent browning. Toast nuts slowly over medium heat and stir constantly to avoid burning. Assemble just before serving for best texture. Variations include nut-free options using toasted coconut flakes or granola, and dairy-free caramel sauces for vegan adaptations.
