This honey garlic baked chicken is incredibly easy to make with simple pantry ingredients, resulting in tender, juicy chicken with a sticky, sweet-savory glaze that’s perfect for impressing guests at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (6–8 ounces each)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or cilantro (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Let chicken breasts sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  2. Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper. Drizzle with olive oil and rub to coat.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together honey, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Add red pepper flakes if using.
  4. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water until smooth to create a slurry.
  5. Place seasoned chicken in a 9×13-inch baking dish in a single layer. Pour honey garlic sauce over chicken, flipping to coat. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, flip each chicken breast, and bake for another 15-20 minutes until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Pour pan juices into a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Whisk in cornstarch slurry and cook for 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  8. Pour thickened sauce back over chicken. Garnish with parsley or cilantro and sesame seeds. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For even cooking, pound chicken breasts to an even thickness. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Baste halfway through cooking. Let chicken rest before serving. Adjust sweetness to taste. For a gluten-free version, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
