  • 1 cup (about 200 g or 7 oz) caramel candies or caramel sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (14 g or 0.5 oz) butter
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml or 1 fl oz) heavy cream or milk (optional)
  • Toppings (optional): chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, or peanuts), mini chocolate chips, rainbow sprinkles, crushed graham crackers, shredded coconut
  • Wax paper or parchment paper for setting the dipped apple slices

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry 3-4 medium apples. Slice each apple into 8-10 thin wedges, about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick, removing the core and seeds. Lay slices on a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine 1 cup caramel candies or caramel sauce with 1 tablespoon butter and 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk. Stir gently and continuously until smooth and pourable, about 5-7 minutes. Add more milk if too thick.
  3. Dip each apple slice into the warm caramel using a fork or fingers. Let excess caramel drip off, then place the slice back on the lined baking sheet.
  4. Immediately sprinkle your choice of toppings on the caramel-coated side before the caramel sets.
  5. Allow the caramel to set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes or refrigerate for 10 minutes to speed up setting.
  6. Serve and enjoy. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Let sit at room temperature before serving to soften caramel.
