A quick and delicious garlic butter shrimp pasta that comes together in just 15 minutes. Perfect for busy weeknights, this recipe uses simple ingredients for a comforting, crowd-pleasing meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined (2125 count per pound)
  • 8 ounces linguine or spaghetti
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 45 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemon (zest and juice)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup reserved pasta water

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente. Before draining, reserve 1/2 cup pasta water. Drain pasta.
  2. While pasta cooks, pat shrimp dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons butter and let it melt and sizzle without browning.
  4. Add shrimp in a single layer. Cook 1-2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Transfer to a plate.
  5. Reduce heat to medium. Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter to the skillet. Once melted, add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Stir in lemon zest and lemon juice. Let bubble for 10 seconds.
  7. Add drained pasta to the skillet. Toss with tongs to coat in garlic butter sauce. If sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water.
  8. Return shrimp to the skillet. Toss gently to combine and warm through.
  9. Remove from heat. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and extra salt if needed. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t overcook shrimp; they are done when pink and curled into a loose C shape. Reserve pasta water to help sauce cling to pasta. Use fresh garlic for best flavor. Work in batches if skillet is small to avoid steaming shrimp.
