Halloween mummy hot dogs - featured image

A simple, comforting, and playful Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent dough with mustard eyes, perfect for festive occasions or cozy nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Hot dogs (regular or beef, preferably all-beef)
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (about 8 oz or 226 g)
  • Yellow mustard for eyes (or ketchup/black sesame seeds as alternatives)
  • Cheese slices (optional, sharp cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Extra flour for dusting work surface

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone mat.
  2. Unroll crescent dough on a lightly floured surface. Slice into thin strips about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) wide.
  3. If using cheese, lay a thin slice over each hot dog.
  4. Wrap each hot dog with dough strips at an angle, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy bandages, covering most of the hot dog but leaving about 1 inch free at one end.
  5. Place wrapped hot dogs on the baking sheet spaced apart.
  6. Brush dough strips lightly with egg wash.
  7. Dot two small mustard eyes near the top of each mummy using a toothpick or small spoon.
  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes until dough is golden and crisp, checking after 10 minutes to avoid burning.
  9. Let cool on baking sheet for 2–3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use thin dough strips about 1/4 inch wide for best crispiness. Egg wash helps achieve golden color but apply lightly to avoid sogginess. Space hot dogs apart on baking sheet for even crisping. Mustard eyes add essential tang and festive look. Can bake in air fryer at 350°F for about 10 minutes. For gluten-free, use gluten-free puff pastry carefully. Cheese is optional but adds a gooey surprise. Leftovers keep up to 2 days refrigerated; reheat in oven to maintain crispiness.
