These crispy football-shaped crescent roll stuffed meatball appetizers are an easy, crowd-pleasing game day snack featuring a flaky, golden crust and juicy, cheesy meatball filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 12 small to medium-sized frozen meatballs (about 1 inch diameter), thawed
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 4 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Marinara sauce for dipping (about 1/2 cup, optional)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. Press perforations together to form a single sheet and cut into 12 equal rectangles (about 3×4 inches each).
  3. In a bowl, combine shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
  4. Place one meatball in the center of each dough rectangle. Top with about 1 tablespoon of the cheese mixture.
  5. Fold the longer edges of the dough over the meatball and cheese, pressing seams gently to seal without flattening the meatball. Pinch ends to create a tapered football shape.
  6. Brush each shaped roll with the egg wash.
  7. Score 3 to 4 horizontal lines across the top of each roll, then add one vertical line down the center to form football laces. Do not cut too deep.
  8. Place rolls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until dough is puffed and golden brown, checking after 12 minutes to avoid over-browning.
  9. Let cool on a rack for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use pre-cooked meatballs to speed up preparation. If dough becomes too soft, chill briefly before shaping. Avoid overfilling rolls to prevent leaks. Egg wash enhances golden color and shine. Score laces lightly to avoid dough splitting. Reheat leftovers in oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes to maintain crispiness. Freeze shaped rolls before baking for make-ahead convenience.
