This Cozy Halloween Punch is a showstopper for any Halloween gathering, featuring a delicious blend of apple cider, cranberry, and warm spices, topped with a dramatic dry ice fog. It’s incredibly easy to make in under 15 minutes and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail
  • 1 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cranberries (a handful)
  • 1–2 pounds dry ice
  • Water (to activate the dry ice)

Instructions

  1. Infuse the Cider: In a small saucepan, combine the apple cider, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise. Warm over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes. Do not boil.
  2. Mix the Punch Base: In a large pitcher, combine the cranberry juice, orange juice, and lemon juice. Stir in the honey or maple syrup until fully dissolved.
  3. Combine Everything: Pour the warm spiced cider (including the cinnamon sticks and cloves) into the pitcher with the juice mixture. Stir to combine. Let cool to room temperature or refrigerate.
  4. Prepare the Punch Bowl: Fill your punch bowl about halfway with the punch mixture. Add the apple slices, orange slices, and fresh cranberries.
  5. Add the Dry Ice Fog: Using tongs, place a small piece of dry ice (about the size of a golf ball) into a separate small bowl or container. Place this small bowl inside your punch bowl, nestled among the fruit. Carefully pour a little warm water over the dry ice. The fog will billow out immediately. Add more water as needed.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Ladle the punch into cups, being careful not to scoop up any dry ice pieces. The fog effect lasts about 15-20 minutes per piece of dry ice. Add more dry ice and water as needed.

Notes

Never touch dry ice with bare skin; always use tongs. Do not put dry ice directly into the punch; keep it in a separate container inside the bowl. The punch base can be made up to 2 days in advance. For an adult version, add 1 cup of dark rum or bourbon. For a fizzy version, use ginger ale instead of some cranberry juice.
