These bacon fig jam crostini bites are the perfect easy appetizer, combining salty crispy bacon with sweet fig jam on toasted baguette slices. Ready in under 20 minutes, they’re a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 French baguette (about 12–14 inches long)
  • 3–4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 8 ounces thick-cut bacon (about 8–10 slices)
  • 1/2 cup fig jam
  • 4 ounces goat cheese (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon flaky sea salt (like Maldon)
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. If using a wire rack, place it on the baking sheet.
  2. Lay bacon strips in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet (or wire rack). Bake for 12-15 minutes until crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain and cool. Leave the oven on.
  3. Slice the baguette on a diagonal into 1/2-inch thick slices (about 20-24 slices).
  4. Arrange baguette slices in a single layer on a clean baking sheet. In a small bowl, mix olive oil with a pinch of salt and pepper. Brush the tops of each slice with the seasoned oil.
  5. Bake the bread for 5-6 minutes until golden and crispy around the edges. Flip and bake for another 2-3 minutes if desired. Remove from oven.
  6. Crumble or chop the cooled bacon into small pieces (about pea-sized).
  7. Spread a generous teaspoon of fig jam onto each toasted baguette slice. If using goat cheese, add a small dollop on top of the jam.
  8. Sprinkle crumbled bacon over the top, pressing gently to stick.
  9. Drizzle a tiny bit of honey over each crostini. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Garnish with fresh thyme or rosemary leaves if desired.
  10. Arrange on a serving platter and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Pre-toast the baguette slices to prevent sogginess. Watch bacon closely as it can burn quickly. Let bacon cool completely before crumbling. Assemble just before serving for best texture. Can prep bread and bacon up to 24 hours in advance.
