Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 8 oz Italian sausage, casings removed (mild or spicy)
  • 1 cup pizza sauce or marinara
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni or regular pepperoni slices
  • 1/4 cup diced green bell pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 12 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped (optional)
  • Tortilla chips, pita chips, sliced baguette, or breadsticks for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a medium oven-safe baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the Italian sausage for about 6-8 minutes until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise (if using), and grated Parmesan. Blend until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly in the bottom of your baking dish.
  5. Spoon the pizza sauce over the creamy base and gently spread to cover. Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the sauce.
  6. Layer on the shredded mozzarella, then scatter pepperoni, diced green peppers, and black olives over the cheese.
  7. Sprinkle with dried oregano, red pepper flakes, and fresh basil if desired.
  8. Bake on the center rack for 18-22 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly. For extra browning, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end, watching closely.
  9. Let the dip cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with more fresh basil or a drizzle of olive oil if desired.
  10. Serve hot with your favorite dippers.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free sausage and dippers. Prep ahead by assembling the dip and refrigerating up to 24 hours before baking. For a vegetarian version, substitute sausage with sautéed mushrooms and peppers. Let the dip rest a few minutes before serving for best texture. Keep warm in a slow cooker for parties.
