A fast and flavorful beef and broccoli stir-fry ready in about 15 minutes, perfect for busy weeknights and casual dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets, washed and trimmed
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced thinly (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice 1 pound of flank steak thinly against the grain. In a bowl, combine beef slices with 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Toss well and marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Chop 3 cups of fresh broccoli into bite-sized florets. Rinse and drain thoroughly.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional), 1 teaspoon brown sugar, and 1/4 cup water or beef broth. Set aside.
  4. Heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and heat until hot but not smoking.
  5. Add the marinated beef in a single layer (cook in batches if needed). Cook 1-2 minutes per side until browned but tender. Remove beef and set aside.
  6. In the same pan, add more oil if needed. Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until bright green and crisp. For softer broccoli, add a splash of water and cover for 1-2 minutes to steam briefly.
  8. Return beef to the pan, pour the sauce over, and toss quickly to coat. Cook 1-2 minutes until sauce thickens and everything is glossy.
  9. Remove from heat, sprinkle sliced green onions on top if using, and serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Marinate beef for at least 10 minutes to tenderize. Use high heat and avoid overcrowding the pan for best sear. Fresh ginger and garlic add essential flavor. For gluten-free, substitute tamari for soy sauce and check oyster sauce labels or omit it.
