Ingredients

Scale
  • Strawberries, whole or halved
  • Seedless grapes, red or green
  • Pineapple chunks (fresh or canned, drained)
  • Banana slices
  • Apple slices (tossed in lemon juice)
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Orange or mandarin segments
  • Dried apricots or figs
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips or melting wafers (at least 60% cacao)
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips or bars
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips or chunks
  • 12 teaspoons coconut oil or neutral oil per chocolate bowl
  • Pretzel rods or twists
  • Shortbread cookies or graham crackers
  • Mini marshmallows or large marshmallows, halved
  • Waffle cone pieces
  • Chopped nuts (pistachios, pecans, or hazelnuts, optional)
  • Sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)
  • Shredded coconut or toffee bits (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and prep all fruit: rinse under cold water, pat dry, hull and halve strawberries, slice bananas and apples (toss apples in lemon juice), cut pineapple into chunks, separate oranges/mandarins, and arrange small berries and dried fruit in bowls.
  2. Melt the chocolate: Place 1 cup of each chocolate (dark, milk, white) in separate microwave-safe bowls. Heat in 20-second bursts, stirring after each, until melted and smooth (1-2 minutes). Add 1-2 teaspoons coconut oil per bowl for a silky texture. Alternatively, melt using a double boiler.
  3. Arrange the platter: Place bowls of melted chocolate on the board. Fan out the sliced fruit, grouping by color. Fill gaps with pretzels, cookies, marshmallows, and waffle cone pieces. Sprinkle nuts, coconut, or toffee bits over the top if desired.
  4. Add finishing touches: Scatter sprinkles or edible glitter. Add toothpicks or fondue forks for dipping. Garnish with fresh mint leaves or edible flowers if desired.
  5. Serve immediately: Set the platter at the center of the table. Encourage guests to dip, mix, and match. If chocolate thickens, microwave for 10-15 seconds to loosen.

Notes

Serve fruit at room temperature for best chocolate dipping. Dry fruit thoroughly to prevent sogginess. Use vegan chocolate and gluten-free dippers for dietary needs. Chocolate can be remelted if it thickens. Customize with seasonal fruit, nuts, or sprinkles. Prep most fruit up to an hour ahead, but slice apples and bananas just before serving.
