A quick and easy 5-layer taco dip featuring seasoned ground beef, refried beans, sour cream, cheese, and fresh toppings. Perfect for parties and casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, smoked paprika)
  • 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup fresh salsa
  • 34 green onions, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1 medium diced tomato, seeded
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and diced (optional)
  • A handful of chopped cilantro
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 lb lean ground beef and cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula until fully browned and no pink remains. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Sprinkle 2 tbsp taco seasoning evenly over the cooked beef. Stir to coat and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Warm 1 can (16 oz) refried beans slightly in the microwave or on the stove for easier spreading.
  4. Spread the warmed refried beans evenly in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish, about ½ inch thick.
  5. Mix 1 cup sour cream with a pinch of salt and pepper. Spread evenly over the bean layer.
  6. Evenly distribute the seasoned ground beef over the sour cream layer. Press lightly to compact but don’t mash.
  7. Sprinkle 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  8. Scatter 1 cup fresh salsa, 3-4 sliced green onions, ½ cup sliced black olives, 1 diced tomato, 1 diced jalapeño (optional), and a handful of chopped cilantro evenly over the cheese.
  9. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and layers set.
  10. Bring to room temperature for 10 minutes before serving with tortilla chips or veggie sticks.

Notes

Avoid overcooking the ground beef to keep it juicy. Drain excess fat well to prevent greasiness. Use the back of a spoon or offset spatula for smooth, even layers. Chill dip for at least 30 minutes before serving to let flavors meld and layers set. Can be made up to 24 hours ahead; add fresh toppings just before serving.
